Garrison Diversion Awards $176,987 in Matching Recreation Grants
CARRINGTON, ND (May 10, 2019) – The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District’s Recreation Committee recently awarded matching recreation grants to 16 projects totaling $176,987. Projects approved for funding include multiple new park playgrounds and various park enhancements.
The following applicants received grant approval from the committee:
- Bottineau County Commission - $7,146 for the completion of the Bottineau Fairground Arena project
- Bottineau Park District - $11,250 for the purchase and installation of new playground equipment at Forestry Park
- Bismarck Parks & Recreation - $100,000 for the development of the Elk Ridge Park
- Cass County Park District - $3,857 for enhancements to the Brewer Lake Campground
- Cass County Commission - $5,623 to assist with upgrades at the Red River Valley Fair campground
- Dickey County Park Board - $973 to purchase signage for the Pheasant Lake Boat Ramp
- Grand Forks Park District - $7,750 to develop the Kiwanis Park Special Needs Playground
- Cooperstown Park Board - $177 to purchase fire rings for the Cooperstown City Park
- Sargent County Park Board - $962 to develop a Frisbee golf course at the Silver Lake Recreation Area
- Ward County Parks - $3,527 to develop a canoe launch facility on the Mouse River at the Eastside Estates and $1,273 to install a tire swing at the Nelson Carlson Lake
- Kenmare Park District - $11,250 to develop the Downtown Square playground
- City of Harvey - $5,503 to construct a pathway at the Centennial Nature Park
- Williams County Park Board - $540 to purchase fire rings for the Blacktail Dam Recreation Area and $2,681for additional development to the Little Egypt Recreation Area
- Williams County Water Resources District - $14,475 for picnic tables and shelters at the Little Beaver Bay Recreation Area
“Our Recreation Committee is pleased with the distribution of another round of matching recreation grant program funds this spring,” said Bill Krivarchka, Recreation Committee Chairman. “We are proud to distribute funds that help communities in our district achieve a better quality of life for enjoyment, recreation and community pride!”
Garrison Diversion dedicates two-tenths of its one-mill levy to the matching recreation grant program to qualifying projects within the 28-county district and has awarded $5.2 million to valuable recreation projects since the program began in 1990. The Recreation Committee meets every spring and fall to consider applications. The next deadline for recreation grant applications is September 3, 2019.
