CARRINGTON, ND (June 5, 2018) – The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District’s Recreation Committee recently awarded matching recreation grants to 16 projects totaling $270,303. Projects varied from developing a horse arena to upgrades at a skate park, as well as multiple park improvements and playground projects.
The following applicants received grant approval from the committee:
- City of Valley City - $16,055 for Phase 3 of the Hi-Line Prairie Gardens and Orchard
- Bottineau County Commission - $17,361 to complete the Bottineau Fairground Horse Arena
- Bismarck Parks & Recreation District – a combined $67,125 for a splash pad at New Generations Park and a sensory play space within the Magical Moments Playground at Wachter Park
- Cass County - $7,277 for camper pads and signage at the Red River Valley Fair campground
- Foster County Commission - $7,383 for new playground equipment at the Courthouse Park in Carrington
- Grand Forks County Water Resource District - $2,713 to construct a picnic shelter at the Fordville Dam RV Park
- LaMoure Park Board - $37,500 for the development of a new play area and installation of new playground equipment at Sunset Park in LaMoure
- City of Garrison - $10,000 for improvements to Wilderness Park
- Ransom County Water Resource District - $37,500 for improvements to bathrooms at the Dead Colt Creek Recreation Area
- Lisbon Park District - $5,000 for upgrades to the Sandager Skate Park
- Sherwood Park Board/City of Kenmare - $23,811 to complete the Renville County Gun Club facility
- Sargent County Park Board - $644 for swimming buoys for the Silver Lake Beach expansion
- Jamestown Parks & Recreation - $10,000 to construct a sensory garden in Solien-DeNault Park
- Mayville Park Board - $20,000 to purchase and install new playground equipment at Island Park
- Ward County Parks -$7,934 for improvements throughout the Ward County park network
“Again, we are proudly giving back to our communities and supporting many worthwhile projects within the district,” said Bill Krivarchka, Recreation Committee Chairman. “Recreation opportunities are important to North Dakotans, and we are excited to distribute our largest award to date!”
Garrison Diversion dedicates two-tenths of its one-mill levy to the matching recreation grant program to qualifying projects within the 28-county district. The Recreation Committee meets every spring and fall to consider applications. The next deadline for recreation grant applications is September 1, 2018.
