McKenzie, Williams Counties request membership to Garrison Diversion
Williams and McKenzie County Commissions have passed motions petitioning the Garrison Diversion Board of Directors for membership and inclusion in the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District boundaries.
"This is an opportunity for McKenzie and Williams Counties to be part of the future water development and recreation opportunities provided for in the Dakota Water Resources Act of 2000," said Dave Koland, Garrison Diversion Manager. "It extends our board to 28 counties and allows a broader range of interests to help in North Dakota's future water development."
Counties requesting inclusion in the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District must first submit a resolution passed by the county commission requesting that the Garrison Diversion Board of Directors to accept their county as a member of the District. The Garrison Diversion Board of Directors will be meeting April 10 and 11 at the Garrison Diversion headquarters in Carrington, ND, to hear the petitions and consider each application to the District. The last county to join the District was Burliegh in 1986.
Following acceptance to the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District, the county commissioners will appoint a director to serve until the next general election.
"We are looking forward to new perspectives from the west," Richard Fugleberg, Garrison Diversion Chairman and Steele County Director said. "Garrison Diversion's mission is to provide and reliable, high quality and affordable water supply to the areas of need in North Dakota."
